MAJOR airlines flying to South Africa report that there are little or no disruptions to their schedules. Virgin Atlantic Airways in South Africa has confirmed that there are no disruptions to flights arriving or departing UK airports, “however we are asking passengers to allow extra time to travel to the airport for check in. Check in for flights will close at the normal time.” Likewise South African Airways has issued a statement saying its flights to and from London have not been affected. “SAA has additional security in place at Heathrow, London, in line with the world’s best practice and UK Transport Department processes.” Flights SA235 and SA237 to Johannesburg are both expected to arrive on time this morning at 07h30 and 09h30 respectively. A spokesperson at Air Namibia told TNN that their services between London and Windhoek are unaffected and operations will continue as normal. Thompsons Tours has said: “At this stage British Airways and Nationwide have advised that they will do everything possible to assist our clients that do not make it to London Heathrow or Gatwick in time for their flight today (July 7). This will be in the form of re-routing or placing passengers on an alternate flight - no refunds will be issued. All other services and departures are running as usual until further notice.” TNN will post updates as and when they are available. (Darren Sandras)
