REPORTS in ‘The Daily News’, a Harare publication, claim that Air Zimbabwe has labour problems. Apparently the airline, after having been confronted with a strike by engineers demanding a 100% pay rise, fired all of them, replacing some with retired engineers. The reports say that these labour difficulties experienced by the airline have raised numerous questions about its aircraft’s safety. In November, one of the carrier’s Boeing 767s reportedly failed to make the return flight to Harare from London on time when it developed a problem with its starter. (Heather Ruddock)
