BRITISH Airways will operate three additional Boeing 747-400 services from London to Cape Town this summer season, boosting capacity on the popular tourist route by 1 200 seats each week. The airline last increased its Cape Town services in July 2000, when it introduced a seventh flight, marking the start of daily services to the Mother City. Now it will operate ten services a week to Cape Town between October and March, the traditional summer peak season. The three additional services will depart from London on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays at 16h50, arriving in Cape Town at 06h30 the next morning. The return flights operate as daylight services on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays, departing Cape Town at 08h30 and arriving in London at 18h35 the following evening. The enhanced schedule begins on October 29, 2002 and runs until March 28, 2003. Bookings opened on Monday. Meanwhile, on the ground, the airline is investing over R600 000 in a new Terraces Departure Lounge at Cape Town International. It will be situated in the refurbished departure hall and is due to open in late September. (Miguel de Sousa)
