BRITISH Airways will increase its London/Cape Town schedule by two flights a week this summer to offer a total of 12 weekly services to the Mother City. According to the airline, the increase will boost capacity on the popular route by nearly 12 000 seats over the peak summer period. The airline has also reported one of its best winters ever on the notoriously seasonal Cape Town route. By operating Boeing 747-400 aircraft rather than the smaller 777s that it normally uses during the Cape winter, the airline has provided some 27 000 additional seats and many flights were fully booked. “The increase in winter travel is good news for us and great news for Cape Town. More importantly it should result in more year-round jobs in the tourism and entertainment sector and hopefully limit seasonal pricing as businesses won’t be as reliant on the summer trade to see them through the winter period,” said Charles Forsyth, BA gm for southern Africa.
