The Indonesian capital, Jakarta, was rocked by a series of explosions and gunfire that hit the city yesterday morning. This follows the suicide bombing that took place in the Sultanahmet district in Turkey on Tuesday.
The UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) advises travellers to stay away from the affected region and follow the instructions of the local security authorities in the area.
Explosions and gunfire were reported in the vicinity of the Sari Pan Pacific Hotel and Sarinah Plaza on Jalan M.H. Thamrin in central Jakarta. As reported by BBC, the blasts killed at least seven people and took place near a shopping centre, the presidential palace and UN offices.
