A powerful earthquake hit the coast of Chile yesterday afternoon, causing landslides and generating a tsunami. According to a report on CNN, four men and one woman have died as a result.
Chile’s National Emergency Office has advised evacuation of the country’s coastline.
The Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre initially issued several tsunami warnings, all of which have now been cancelled. It is still evaluating whether it is necessary to issue a tsunami warning for Hawaii.
Cruises International reports that its operations have not been affected by the earthquake but says that it will be watching the situation closely.
