Busy winter season predicted by S Cape

THE South Peninsula is bracing for one of the busiest winter seasons ever, led by some 1 200 daily visitors expected at South Africa's most prestigious yacht race to be held at Simon's Town for the first time ever. The Lipton Cup runs from August 5 to 12 complete with an accompanying Boat Show from August 5 to 9 at False Bay Yacht Club. Other draws include the second annual Secret Season campaign to woo off-season visitors, the new Simon's Town Art Route, the Spier Train and the relaunch, after two years, of the Nuisance Express ferry to Seal Island and Cape Point, for which bookings are essential, say organisers. "Although far fewer tourists arrive in winter, there is still plenty of life," said Sue Sturman of Peninsula Tourism. (Simon Farrell)
