CAPE Town has announced it will clamp down on people’s abuse of the city’s by-law controlling poster displays. Culprits currently abusing the use of posters include estate agents, night clubs and newspapers. The Mother City says it understands the importance of promoting of exhibitions. This is why Cape Town and the Exhibition Association of Southern Africa are creating strategic areas where the by-law may be changed. This could include a way of allowing exhibition organisers or concert promoters to put up poster pillars to inform the public of exhibitions and concerts. The poster pillars would be placed in large pedestrian areas, for example, around stations and bus terminals. Additional sites for banners for ‘great events’ on the City diary are also an option.
