THE Winelands Casino Worcester presented its application for the Breede River casino licence at a public hearing convened by the Western Cape Gambling and Racing Board in Worcester yesterday with employment creation and regional opportunities being its main thrust.
Winelands Casino chairman, Alex Abercrombie says: " The design of the complex has been scaled to the point where it can be completely supported by local artisans and craftsmen. As a consequence, we believe that the building skills required to construct the development can be totally drawn from the region. Some 350 construction jobs would be created during the nine-month building programme."
The site chosen for development of the Winelands Casino is on a portion of land adjacent to the golf course, a short drive outside the town of Worcester.
Commenting on the theming of the complex, director Hassen Adams says it "pulls together the elements that attract visitors to the Breede River region, such as winemaking, olive farming and horse breeding activities".
