CONSERVATION Corporation Africa's (CC Africa) Sossusvlei Mountain Lodge in the Namib Desert, Namibia, is offering unique "astronomy safaris" from its sophisticated observatory which is equipped with a 12-inch Meade telescope - the most powerful electronic telescope in Namibia outside of the National Observatory. From the middle of June, professor George Tucker from New York University will be the resident astronomer at the lodge. Tucker has a PhD in Astronomy, and, apart from his university lectures and research, is actively involved in Nasa's space and satellite projects. Tucker has exciting plans for a variety of astronomical activities at the lodge, including assisting guests in photographing celestial sightings and burning images taken onto CD. Sossusvlei Mountain Lodge will host other eminent astronomers after professor Tucker's three-month visit, providing a cosmic experience for guests. (Miguel de Sousa)
