Fastjet plans further expansion

Fastjet has officially launched flights between Johannesburg and Zanzibar, as well as Dar es Salaam and Nairobi.

“We expect to grow our footprint in South Africa over the next 12 months, and we are hoping to get the correct permits to start flights between Harare and Johannesburg, which we wish to operate at least double daily. We are also looking to link Johannesburg with Victoria Falls, and thereby grow operations in Zimbabwe. South Africa is a strong destination for Zimbabwe and vis versa,” fastjet coo, Richard Bodin told eTNW.

According to Richard, other plans include the expansion of services in Zambia. “As soon as we get permission to fly from Lusaka to Johannesburg, we will start flights on that route.”

He says that the expansion of services is fastjet’s attempt to drive more and more direct traffic into underserviced areas, which will increase competition in the industry. “This will in turn encourage more people to fly around Africa,” he said, adding that he expects rapid expansion within the African aviation market.
