Flyafrica Zim continues to operate

Flyafrica SA Ltd has been placed under business rescue. The company – which is a subsidiary of the holding company, based in Mauritius – is separate from Flyafrica Zimbabwe.

Chairman of Flyafrica Zimbabwe, Cassidy Mugwagwa, says Flyafrica Zimbabwe operates separately under an AOC owned by Nu-Aero private Ltd, which recently received a financial injection of US$6,6m (R106m) to refinance and rejuvenate operations on the airline’s existing routes.

The companies that have gone into business rescue include Flyafrica SA Ltd, Fly Africa Aviation Services and Africa Aircraft Maintenance, which are based in South Africa.

Cassidy says when the Flyafrica group was first established, a different company was set up in each country from where it would operate. These companies were then administered out of South Africa by Fly Africa Aviation Services.

According to Cassidy, in the past, Fly Africa Aviation Services provided staff personnel to operate Flyafrica Zimbabwe. However, in terms of the Zimbabwean AOC regulations, Nu-Aero had to operate as a Zimbabwean airline, therefore the airline’s staff have now been recruited out of Zimbabwe.

Cassidy maintains that Flyafrica Zimbabwe will resume flights within the next two weeks. The airline will renew its relationship with Hahn Air and will continue to ticket through GSAs in the South African market.
