SIX hundred German travel agents participated in the 10-day Dertour Roadshow held earlier this month to showcase the new brochure for long-haul destinations. The new southern Africa Dertour brochure features 60 pages on South Africa, positioning it this year as an active and sporty destination. A team from SA Tourism, Sun International and Dertour presented a daily half-hour workshop on South Africa, with "very positive" responses from the participating travel agents. Marketing manager: trade on the Dertour Roadshow, Stephan Gotta says: "New themes introduced in the brochure include hiking tours in the southern Drakensberg, which promotes the newly-established World Heritage Site as well as the Great Karoo with the Valley of Desolation and the Kalahari." Gotta says Dertour's 'Grand Tours of National Parks', focusing on all the South African National Parks and the various private game reserves, has proven the most popular. (Adéle Mackenzie)
