US-BASED consortium Ghana International Airlines (GIA) has won a bid to acquire a stake in debt-ridden flag carrier Ghana Airways, reports Reuters. "Negotiations have been concluded for Ghana International Airlines to take up 30% in Ghana Airways. The Ghana government will hold the remaining 70%," said Gustav Azu, chairman of a government-appointed interim task force for the troubled national carrier. Azu added that the 1 200-strong workforce would be cut. The government suspended Ghana Airways’s operations earlier this month and sacked the carrier's board, after US authorities grounded the airline for ignoring instructions to stop operating a plane which had raised safety concerns.
