Grading council integrates with TripAdvisor

The star grading of South African establishments will now be displayed on TripAdvisor as part of a signed Memorandum of Understanding between South African Tourism and TripAdvisor. The agreement will see the Tourism Grading Council of South Africa (TGCSA) integrate its content with the online platform.

According to a spokesperson from TGCSA, only establishments with a valid TGCSA star grading will have their grading displayed on the TripAdvisor website. The star grading can be viewed by right clicking on the stars next to the property's name. This feature does not come at an extra cost to the establishment.

The TGCSA currently has an application program interface (API) with TripAdvisor to ensure that the displaying of stars is both current and accurate. The API provides TripAdvisor with the grading information and category as per the TGCSA categories. The exchange of this data takes place monthly.
