Green Scorpions strike out at offenders

THE Environmental Management Inspectors, otherwise known as the “Green Scorpions”, embarked on a nationwide campaign against environmental offenders yesterday (March 15). This was the first in a series of planned ‘Quarterly Enforcement Days’. Some of the areas and issues inspected were the disposal of waste by abattoirs in the Northern Cape; illegal slipways, off-road vehicles and unregistered launching sites in the Western Cape; and criminal activity along the Table Mountain National Park coastline. The aim of this environmental enforcement drive was to raise awareness about environmental crimes and educate the public on its role in protecting the environment.
