KLM has reduced its fuel surcharge by €5 (R48,50) per leg on all intercontinental flights and by €1 (R9,70) per leg on all intra-European flights. This applies to all tickets issued as of today (September 28). The airline said its policy was to adjust the fuel surcharge if the oil price rises or drops below a certain level for more than 30 consecutive days. KLM is one of the first airlines to take the step to reduce a fuel surcharge. Airlines have consistently implemented, or raised, fuel surcharges over the past two years, as oil prices continued to rise. The oil price was at $59 (R448,40) per barrel as of yesterday evening.
