LEGACY Hotels and Resorts International has installed wireless hotspot Internet access in all it primary properties throughout South Africa, Namibia and Tanzania. This means that the business traveller will have access to online resources, such as sales presentations and materials from their corporate networks. According to a recent analysis, says Legacy, it is estimated that by 2007, at least 60% of hotels will provide wireless high-speed Internet connectivity to their guests. Says Legacy’s group sales and marketing director, Brian Davidson: “What this means is that guests can now access the Internet from public areas of zones in the hotel via their ‘Wi-fi’ enabled laptops without being confined or restricted to their rooms or a business centre.” Thomas Kingler, group financial controller, says that the group has elected to go with a prepaid model giving in-house and transient guests access to Internet facilities. “One voucher will allow the user to gain access to the Internet via our ‘Wi-fi’ or public WAN in all units. However, in selected units, it can also be used in business centres via dial-up from rooms and in the near future with high speed Ethernet connectivity into the rooms,” he says. In conclusion, Davidson confirms that “parallel to Legacy’s current and projected expansion into key corporate and leisure destinations in sub-equatorial Africa, our primary goal is to continuously provide our guests with up-to-date technology which will assist in enhancing our guests’ experience when staying at any one of our hotels.” (Natalia Thomson)
