LIMPOPO Province is to launch the first annual Makhado Arts and Culture festival in December, aimed at creating a better understanding of the history and culture of the Vha-Venda people. Festival director, Mavhungo Lerule, said the festival would be the first of its kind in the Venda region and would follow a string of roadshows during which play directors would pass on some of their skills to local groups in preparation of the main event. The festival will include live music, theatre performances and film viewing, traditional and contemporary dances, choral music, crafters, a visual arts exhibition and literature. Organised by the Pfanani Community Trust, the festival will run from December 12-16 in Thohoyandou, Limpopo Province. (Natalia Thomson)
