Lufthansa to continue three off-peak flights

LUFTHANSA says it will continue with three of the five seasonal flights presently operating between Johannesburg and the Bavarian capital, Munich. Besides the regular daily Cape Town via Johannesburg and non-stop to Frankfurt schedule operated with the Boeing B747-400, the additional three weekly flights are being served with the state of the art Airbus A340. For travellers this means a choice of double daily from South Africa to Germany on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays, with southbound flights departing from both Frankfurt and Munich on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Lufthansa is the only foreign airline offering two destinations in Europe and two in South Africa. "The Department of Transport permits us a change of gauge in Johannesburg," explains Miguel de Jorge, Lufthansa gm for southern and east Africa. "This means that our Cape Town originating passengers can transfer onto the Munich bound aircraft and those starting their journey in Bavaria can change aircraft in Johannesburg and fly through to Cape Town, all on Lufthansa." He further added that this meant utilising the aircraft between the Mother City and Johannesburg to its full capacity. (Miguel de Sousa)
