LIMPOPO’s Mapungubwe National Park will be officially opened to the public on September 27 (Heritage Day), according to BuaNews. The announcement was made by South African National Parks ce, David Mabunda, at the recent release of four white rhino in to the park. Mapungubwe, a World Heritage Site, will see several other projects and events in the coming months that will mark the development and consolidation of the new park such as the introduction of species of wild dog, red hartebeest, sable antelope and nyala. Developments already completed in the park include the building of roads and entrance gate facilities, the erection of fencing, the development of accommodation facilities, and the construction of wooden decks at important viewpoints. The park also forms part of the development of the Limpopo/Shashe Transfrontier Park that will include Botswana’s Tuli Block and Zimbabwe’s Tuli Safari area. (Darren Sandras)
