Minister wants Sondwana guesthouse investigated

The Department of Tourism has referred allegations of racism by the owner of Sodwana Bay Guest House in KwaZulu Natal, to the South African Human Rights Commission for investigation.

This follows the recent incident of a prospective visitor complaining about the racist accommodation policy at the guest house.

“We will take strong action against discrimination wherever and whenever it appears, regardless of the perpetrators,” said Derek Hanekom, Tourism Minister.

"We are investigating other measures that can be taken against owners of establishments who practise racism,” added Hanekom.

Hanekom asked the public to continue to be vigilant and report any abuse of their rights.
