Monday Smile: 400 elephants to relocate across Zimbabwe

Great Plains Conservation is relocating 400 elephants and 2 500 other animals across Zimbabwe.

Elephants, 100 of which were recently relocated, are humans’ biggest allies in biodiversity, protecting it and increasing it. The reduction in numbers of elephants, for example, reduces the positive impact they have on the planet, and the erosion of wildlife numbers makes it worse for everyone.

The Savé Valley Conservancy (SVC) and the Sango section of that area have been experiencing an overpopulation of wildlife. Great Plains has a concession along the Zambezi River, next to Mana Pools, with lower wildlife densities and its private Sapi Reserve is the ideal recipient for these animals.

Working closely with Sango and SVC, as well as the Zimbabwe government and under the new Project Rewild Zambezi banner, Great Plains has started one of the most ambitious projects undertaken in over 40 years of its conservation life.
