A MEETING was held last week on Friday, January 21 between the Park Hyatt Hotel in Rosebank and the various stakehoders of House Group of Projects (HGP) - the Park Hyatt's chosen millennium charity of choice until December 2000 - to determine a fundraising strategy for this year. According to the Hyatt's public relations officer, Lesley Wright, the latest charity drive was the sale of the hotel's own Christmas cards, from which an amount of R1 000 was raised for HGP. The HGP encompasses various projects, including a Shelter and Drop-In Centre, assisting child prostitutes and drug-addicted youths. An ongoing project at the Hyatt is the donation of its discarded bed linen, towels and crockery. Executive chef, Sean MacDougal also allows the project to take advantage of bulk purchase prices available to the hotel, implementing joint purchasing programmes for basic foods such as mealie-meal, peanut butter and jam. Charity drives held last year included a Car Wash and Cappuccino Day as well as a Nederburg Wine Auction Dinner. (Adele MacKenzie)
