New border controls in Europe

Greece has decided to suspend the stricter border control measures introduced on April 7 for six months, due to serious delays on the first day of implementation.

The new measures meant that citizens from third countries, as well as EU citizens, were subjected to more detailed and stricter checks at all Greek borders.

However, Portugal will reintroduce border controls for all citizens and suspend all open borders from May 10-14 during the Pope’s visit to the country.

During this time, all visitors to Portugal, including those with EU passports, will need to produce passports or identification documents when crossing into the country.
