LEGEND Lodges has opened another attraction at its fourth cultural village, Motseng Cultural Village at Sun City. Since its opening, the shebeen has proven one of the most popular attractions at Sun City, says gm of the Village People @Sun City, Abri Meyer. According to him, the shebeen is aimed at international and domestic leisure guests, tour and corporate groups, seating between 150 to 160 people inside, and 80 on the terrace. More people can be accommodated in the garden. Since the Motseng Village boma serves traditional African food, the shebeen caters for cross-cultural palates, although with an emphasis on the kind of “home-made comfort food your mother used to make, says Meyer. On Sunday afternoons however, Meyer and his staff make a huge fire and serve up one of the great South African traditions, a “braai” (barbeque) with all the old side-dish favourites as trimmings. “We have become the favoured meeting place at Sun City because we offer a fun, funky, relaxed atmosphere – reflected in everything we do from our décor, to our food and the friendliness of our staff,” says Meyer. Currently, a local musician entertains shebeen guests on Sunday evenings but Meyer plans to bring in more local talent for African jazz and blues evenings. (Natalia Thomson)
