An Italian court has ordered Uber to cease all operations across the country as, according to the court, Uber represents unfair competition for taxi drivers.
A court in Rome said Uber was in violation of transportation laws and that the main point of contention for traditional taxi associations was that they could not compete with Uber’s prices.
Uber has 10 days to stop all its operations and may not run any advertising campaigns. The company would then have to pay €10 000 (R147 200) for every day that it continued to operate.
Uber told La Repubblica that it would appeal the decision as the transportation law was outdated.
