Phinda wins conservation tourism award

CC AFRICA’S Phinda Private Game Reserve was awarded the Phoenix Award by the Society of American Travel Writers (SATW). The award was announced on November 10 at the annual SATW convention in Orlando, Florida. The Phoenix Award was established in 1968 to recognise the important role played by individuals and organisations actively involved in conservation, preservation and beautification campaigns that further the growth and appeal of travel regions. Phinda was recognised for its pioneering efforts and success in sustainable ecotourism, conservation development and community empowerment. CC Africa's formation of Phinda Private Game Reserve in 1990 has now become a blueprint for the successful rehabilitation of overgrazed agricultural land, for restocking the wilderness with its original indigenous wildlife, and for the dialogue and community empowerment initiatives it maintains with neighbouring communities.
