Poll position comment: Local tourism bodies valuable

DESPITE the majority of respondents to a previous TNN poll saying that they believed fragmentation is a serious threat to tourism in South Africa, two thirds of the respondents to last week’s poll said that rather than causing fragmentation, small tourism bodies cater for more niche markets and offer service levels and local information that larger bodies cannot. The remaining 33% of respondents said that small tourism bodies cause confusion and having fewer, larger bodies would mean that budgets would go further. This week we want to know how clued up you are on South Africa and whether you feel that you would benefit from completing a South African Tourism Fundi course. The Fundi programme is currently only available outside of SA but SA Tourism said that its domestic portfolio is aware of demand from South Africans to do the course. Let us know whether you would be keen on brushing up on your knowledge and become better equipped to sell the country. Click on the block on the left to have your say. (Lucy Siebert)
