Reader survey votes luxury lodge tops

TRAVEL & Leisure magazine, the USA's popular consumer travel magazine, has voted CCAfrica's Londolozi Private Game Reserve in Mpumalanga as the 'World's Best Value' in its annual reader survey. A spokesperson for the magazine said that the winners in this category aren't necessarily always the cheapest option - far from it at times - but these days "you may have to give more than a little to get quite a lot". Readers are asked to rate their favourite hotels, resorts, cities and islands around the world according to value. They then compile the results along with the average score and, when applicable, the March 1 rate for the most basic double room. In the case of Londolozi - the first game reserve in the world to be accorded Relais & Chateaux status - is R3 720 (approximately US$600) per night per person sharing. (Elizabeth Sheridan)
