SOUTH African Airway’s (SAA) first female pilot trainee, 23-year-old Asnath Mahapa, has been nominated for this year’s Shoprite Checkers/SABC2 Woman of the Year Award. The young pilot has been nominated into the Award’s new Science and Technology category. “I hope that my nomination will not only be an inspiration to most girls but actually open doors to others, particularly in professions that were previously dominated by males,” said Asnath. SAA is the official carrier of the Woman of the Year Award and will be responsible for flying the judges, finalists and winners from a variety of destinations to Gauteng and Cape Town for the judging and gala events.
