SAA to chop CPT/LHR route?

BRITISH Travel Trade Gazette (TTG) reports that the fate of SAA’s daily Cape Town-Heathrow service could be in the balance. The Gazette quoted Jason Krause, the airline’s head of network development and alliances, saying seasonality made year-round profitability on the route very difficult, and the airline was taking a long hard look at its route network, with a decision due at the end of June. But, he added, this did not mean SAA was getting out of London, nor was it looking to sell any of its slots. Robyn Chalmers, SAA head corporate affairs, said: “At this stage, a decision has only been made to close the Paris route at the end of October. Various options exist to improve those routes that are marginal, such as changing the type of aircraft used on the route.” Brought to you by TravelHub… Kate Nathan (katen@nowmedia.co.za)
