SANParks has announced that talks with strike representatives have proven fruitless as a result of unreasonable demands that require it to adjust salaries and related allowances by between 78 and 1200%
“The organisation will stick to its principle of no work no pay. This means anybody who is taking part in this strike must expect to lose their salary for as long as they are participating in the strike,” says SANParks’ Managing Executive of Human Resources, Leonard Mavuso,
The strike, which is entering its sixth week, is affecting the Kruger National Park and Mapungubwe National Park and World Heritage site in Limpopo.
Mavuso said that the organisation will only negotiate salaries with HOSPERSA and SACCAWU, the recognised unions that represent the majority of its employees. SANParks together with HOSPERSA and SACCAWU have established a Joint Bargaining Forum for collective bargaining purposes.
“SANParks condemns the unlawful acts of violence, rioting and intimidation of non-striking members and a tourist committed by some of the strikers. We have obtained a court order prohibiting strikers from committing unlawful acts.”
He urged those staff members who wish to return to work to do so without fear of intimidation.
