ENVIIRONMENTAL Affairs and Tourism minister, Mohammed Valli Moosa, has announced the appointment of South African Tourism's 15 new board members, following official cabinet approval. "The new board - whose primary function is to advise and consent, in line with the guiding principles linked to South African Tourism's mission statement - comprises of champions of the South African business sector. They bring with them a wealth of experience that will add invaluable contribution in shaping South Africa as the number one tourist destination in the world," he said. Moosa, in congratulating the new board, said that all members - in bringing to the table far more than the essential skills and attributes laid down as core criteria for appointment - have more than proved they have the skills and integrity to contribute to the broader vision and mission of SA Tourism as pronounced in the Tourism Act. He added that the board, which begins its work this month, was appointed following a public call for nominations in December 2002. The board members - the majority of whom are actively involved in the tourism industry - will be in office for three years. Chairman of Anglo Vaal, Rick Menell, will retain his position as board chairman, and Dr Danisa Baloyi, executive director of the National Business Caucus will be the deputy chairperson.
