Satour hits the road again

SOUTH African Tourism (Satour), together with South African Airways (SAA) Cargo and SASOL, are sending a 1973 MG car to the UK to take part in the renowned competitive London to Sydney motor marathon which starts on June 3 from London's Heathrow. It will be painted in the livery of the SA flag for the event, mirroring the 40 London taxi cabs currently decked out in the same way as "moving billboards" in London's West End. Moss Mashishi, Satour's acting ceo, said: "We believe that this initiative continues the momentum generated by Satour's international marketing campaign launched last year and will contribute to its main objective of establishing SA firmly on the map as one of the world's favoured tourist destinations." The marathon travels through 16 countries and covers 17 000 km over 32 days. Approximately 95 cars from 15 countries will be participating this year, with five SA Porsche drivers joining the sponsored MG. (Elizabeth Sheridan)
