SCC job creation spin-off

THE Sandton Convention Centre (SCC) reports that since its opening in September, job creation in allied sectors in the area such as the tourism and hospitality industries, cleaning and security among others, have received a welcome boost.
SCC management said additional jobs, particularly amongst disadvantaged communities, would be created as a result of a strong outsourcing policy.
"We want to concentrate on our core business of providing a professional and seamless service to clients holding conventions, exhibitions and special events, and have therefore outsourced all non-core activities, which range from catering to cleaning, to those with the expertise and experience in these specialised areas," said SCC executive director, Deon Viljoen.
Viljoen highlighted several examples of outsourced job-creation initiatives including the successful training of 220 candidates from disadvantaged communities who are employed by Hoteltemp for functions at the SCC.
Some of the outsourced companies include: Renfreight, which has been awarded the contract for freight forwarding and traffic marshalling; Associated Prevention Services which will provide security services at the centre; Zonkesizwe has been awarded the cleaning contract; the main catering contract has been outsourced to the Sandton Sun and Towers Inter-continental; Gearhouse Presentation Services has been appointed as the preferred supplier of audio-visual and presentation equipment, while the telecommunications outsourcing contract has been awarded to Siemens Business Services. The contract for facilities management at the centre has been awarded to Johnson Controls.
Concludes Viljoen: "We believe that, in conjunction with our contractors, we have highly skilled and experienced personnel who, working together as a united team, will advance the concept of service excellence to unprecedented new heights and deliver on our empowerment commitment."
