THE chefs at Southern Sun hotels, the official hotel group for the ICC Cricket World Cup which kicks off tomorrow (Saturday), have prepared culinary delights at their hotels countrywide for the visiting spectators, players and dignitaries. The dishes showcase South Africa's unique dishes including braised lamb, chicken pie and milk tart, babotie (curried mince dish), tandoori chicken, chicken briyani, sweet potatoes, morogo (wild spinach) and pap (corn porridge), and South African braai fare (BBQ). The dishes reflect the diversity of South Africa's multicultural society, including African, European, Indian and mixed race or coloured (especially Cape Malay influences). Each of the hotels within the region have also been given free reign to devise a unique World Cup menu. Says Southern Sun food and beverage director, Billy Gallagher: "The 2003 games provide South Africa with the perfect opportunity to treat our international guests to truly South African flavoured culinary experiences. We are also going all out to ensure that our supporters' needs will be catered for." (Miguel de Sousa)
