Special competition to launch new birding route

A BIRD Watching Competition will take place on the first weekend of November to launch the new Soutpansberg-Limpopo Birding Route. The route will be divided into four regions with prizes being awarded for the highest percentage of species recorded out of a pre-determined number which occur in each region; sightings of a pre-determined ‘mystery bird’ in each area and an overall first prize for the highest percentage recorded of occurring species. Teams will consist of four members and an entry fee of R1 000 will be levied per team (including accommodation and all meals). Teams will be required to bird two different destinations over the two day period and participating teams will be allocated their two areas by means of a draw which will take place on October 13. Each team, upon receipt of payment, will be issued with a Soutpansberg-Limpopo Birding Route booklet and map which they will keep and a standard bird list which will be returned for use in compiling the database. Entries close on October 10, 2003 For more information, e-mail Sarah Venter on: windwaai@mweb.co.za . (Miguel de Sousa)
