CHANGES to the UK’s popular Working Holidaymaker Scheme, announced in London on June 20, are likely to benefit young South Africans. The changes - which will come into force on August 25, have been made to encourage more young people from all Commonwealth countries to participate. The major changes include the raising of the upper age limit from 27 to 30 and the removal of employment restrictions - which currently allow participants to engage only in casual work. Also, after 12 months in the UK, participants may be able to switch status, allowing them to take up work permit employment. (Miguel de Sousa)
