THE Federated Hospitality Association of South Africa (FEDHASA) says it might endorse three local candidates for possible selection in this year's 2000 scholarship programme of the International Hotel and Restaurant Association. FEDHASA's executive director, Willem Fick says that by the January 15 deadline, it had received 11 written applications and several enquiries from students who had misunderstood the requirements for selection, as the scholarships are only awarded to deserving 24 to 35-year- olds already working in the industry. "Eligible candidates should have a minimum of two years' continuous working experience at middle management level at either a hotel or restaurant, and should be fluent in English," he says. The annual programme provides between 10 and 15 scholarships and involves summer school courses in both the USA and Europe, offering sought-after training managed by top international hospitality experts.
