UAE journos visit SA’S tourist hotspots

A GROUP of journalists from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) is touring South Africa to become acquainted with South Africa’s tourism products. The media contingent will be in the country from tomorrow, June 29, until July 8, and will visit Gauteng, KwaZulu Natal, North West, and the Eastern and Western Cape. Among the highlights will be a visit to South Africa’s premier horseracing and fashion event, the Vodacom July. The long-term strategy of this project is to highlight South Africa’s tourism experiences among the Arabic tourism market as the country prepares to participate in future tourism investment and promotion road shows in the UAE in February 2007. “The United Nations World Tourism Organization has indicated that the Middle East outbound market has grown from 8,6m in 1995 to 12,1m in 2000, with further projected growth of 35,2m by 2020,” says Patience Molokoza, director of tourism international relations.
