eTNW has confirmed that South African passport holders do not require a visa when travelling to Brazil. Therefore they do not require a transit visa.
SAA has advised that from October 1, passengers who are travelling to South America via Brazil now need to obtain a transit visa if they are travelling on separate tickets.
However, if they are travelling with an e-ticket that includes their complete itinerary, a transit visa is not required, according to SAA spokesperson, Tlali Tlali.
For example, passengers flying from Johannesburg to Buenos Aires through Brazil, would require a transit visa if their Johannesburg-Brazil ticket was issued separately to their Brazil-Buenos Aires ticket. However, if the passenger has an e-ticket stating every destination (from point of departure to final stop), they do not require a transit visa.
The Embassy of Brazil in Pretoria could not provide eTNW with further comment at the time of publication.
