US to take over screening from airlines

THE US government plans to take over screening airline passengers against a 'no-fly' list of potential terrorists, according to Reuters. The screening is currently operated by airlines, however, Homeland Security Undersecretary, Asa Hutchinson is quoted as saying that the government can do a better job of catching suspected terrorists if it checks passenger names against the no-fly list, rather than relying on airlines to do the screening. Having the government screen airline passengers with the no-fly list is one of the recommendations made by the September 11 Commission. (Lucy Siebert)
