Virgin – no SA flights before March 9

22 Feb 2021

Virgin Atlantic has cancelled all flights on its South African routes (Johannesburg-London and Cape Town-London) from March 3 to March 9.

The cancellation is an extension of the carrier’s previous flight withdrawal. Virgin was obliged to cancel its SA flights when the British lockdown began and ceased flying to SA from December 23, 2020. In January 2021, the airline hoped that its South African flights would recommence at the end of February.

The extension of the no-fly is due to the disruption caused by the lockdown in the UK and the travel restrictions to and from many of the countries it operates to. It says it is also reducing frequencies on some routes.

According to the airline, there will be no reprotection option available for these flights, and the sectors will appear as UN. Virgin said in a communication to the trade that the cancellation of the flights had been updated in GDSs on Saturday, February 20.
