Volunteers make a difference

The Honorary Officers of KZN Wildlife, a voluntary group of men and women who support conservation in KZN, have recently made a series of donations to the organisation.
These include R5 000 to purchase equipment for KZN Wildlife aircraft including a Global Positioning System to be used mainly during aerial game counts and aerial surveys; R10 000 for research into the endangered oribi; and the provision of 'skottel-braais' to be used at the Maphumulo picnic site at a fee of R5 on a 'first-come, first-served' basis.
"We are proud to be able to assist conservation in this province," said Dave Durow, chairman of the KZN Wildlife Honorary Officer group. "There are over 700 of us in 43 groups scattered throughout KwaZulu Natal. Our function is to assist the regular KZN Wildlife staff where possible and by providing funds for sorely needed items, like the GPS for the aircraft, we are able to make an effective contribution to conservation."
