World Travel to shut its doors

After nearly 30 years of service, World Travel, a division of Bidvest Travel Holdings and GSA for rail in Southern Africa, will cease operations from March 31.

According to a statement, the decision is in response to evolving consumer preferences and industry trends, and will enable Bidvest Travel Holdings to refocus efforts in other strategic areas.

World Travel advises agents:

  • For new bookings, from April 1, agents are encouraged to create their profiles on the Rail Europe B2B portal to continue facilitating train bookings for Europe.
  • All bookings ticketed by World Travel up to March 31 will be supported by World Travel until travel is completed.
  • The World Travel team will manage refunds and exchanges for existing bookings until December 15.

Alternative booking platforms

For bookings outside Europe, World Travel has provided contacts for direct bookings:

  • Amtrak: Train Tickets, Schedules & Routes | Amtrak
  • Canada: tailormade@fcholidays.com
  • Japan: service@internationalrail.com.au
  • Australia: tradesales@journeybeyond.com

“We would like to express our deepest gratitude to our valued clients and partners who have supported World Travel over the past 29 years,” said Kele Lekalake, GM of World Travel. “While this marks a significant transition for our organisation, we remain committed to ensuring a smooth process for all our stakeholders.”
