The Abu Dhabi Tourism & Culture Authority (TCA Abu Dhabi) has launched a dedicated tourist map of Al Gharbia.
The region’s open desert, towns, beaches, coastline and activities have been collated into a compact, visitor-friendly, fold-out map.
“Al Gharbia is becoming increasingly popular with visitors, and our new map features all the region’s key places of interest and highlights the region’s fascinating festivals and cultural events,” says Saeed Al Dhaheri, Customer Service Section Manager, TCA Abu Dhabi.
Highlights include the region’s traditional festivals and cultural events such as the annual Liwa Date Festival and December’s Al Dhafra Camel Festival.
“The map will help spread the message that there’s much more to see and do in Al Gharbia. In fact visitors may be surprised by the area’s sheer diversity. We want to help attract more visitors to the region’s festivals and attractions, and increase the average length of stay at its hotels,” says Saeed.
The new map features 3D representations of attractions, including detailed plotting of the eight early-19th century forts and towers across the oasis town of Liwa, as well as a visual representation of the five-star Qasr al Sarab Desert Resort by Anantara.
The map also includes details of the archaeological and conservation destination of Sir Bani Yas Island, home of the Arabian Wildlife Park and the accommodation choices of Anantara’s Desert Islands Resort & Spa, Al Yamm and Al Sahel Villas.
There is practical information and street plans of the resort town of Jebel Dhanna, the maritime heritage of Delma Island and highlights of the harbour town of Al Mirfa – home to the annual 10-day Al Gharbia Watersports Festival.
