Accessible Cape Town campaign kicks off

Cape Town Tourism has launched its ‘Limitless Cape Town’ campaign, which it calls a first-of-its-kind universal access movement. The aim is to ensure that all people, regardless of ability, have equal opportunity and access to Cape Town’s tourism offerings.

The campaign is introducing city-wide braille touchpoints, as well as South Africa’s first-ever qualified blind tour guide, Winston Fani.

Braille touchpoints have been installed on street art murals in Salt River, where Fani recently offered guests an interactive tour, and on Cape Town’s giant yellow frames, which offer tourists the perfect vantage point from which to take photos, at tourist attractions across the city. Cape Town Tourism has also incorporated QR codes for audio content describing the views and art murals.

The yellow frames have been installed at:

  • V&A Waterfront

  • Signal Hill

  • Blouberg – Eden on the Bay

  • District Six

  • Silo District

Plans are also in the pipeline to develop social media content with audio options, create maps profiling accessible routes, conduct sensitivity and awareness training workshops, and launch audio maps of accessible Cape Town routes.
