Accolades for 'The Cape'

28 Jun 2000 - by Dave Marsh

HAVING been voted as Cape Town's best restaurant in renowned local food critic Tony Jackman's 'Cape on a Plate' 2000 restaurant guide, The Cape Colony restaurant at the Mount Nelson Hotel has reopened for lunch.
The menu, called 'modern South African' by executive chef, Garth Stroebel, blends Thai, Italian, Mediterranean and European with a strong Cape Malay influence. Lunch opening specials are on offer for the remainder of this month only, with prices starting at R65 for a one-course meal and R85 for two courses.
The Mount Nelson, along with its sister hotel, The Westcliff in Johannesburg, will also be hosting two-day and five-day botanical painting classes in September and October, designed by renowned botanist and collector, Dr Shirley Sherwood.
The classes will be taught by Jenny Phillips, one of Australia's most influential botanical art teachers.
