Three years after lockdown plunged the travel industry into crisis, the 30-year-old Travel Industry Golf Club was able to report at its AGM, held in Johannesburg this week, that it is once again in good health.

Newly elected Chairman, Marco Cristofoli, was able to report that, in the year ending December 2022, the club had managed get back two-thirds of its golf days. This enabled the club to make a surplus of around R40 000. Retained income increased from R171 000 to R216 000.

Marco takes over from Jose Cruz, who was Founding Chairman in 1993 and had steered the club to regularly offer members six golf days a year at a variety of courses.

With 2023 now back to six golf days, each with different sponsors, the committee was confident the club’s finances would further improve this year. The MSC golf day attracted a record 136 golfers.

Rob Jasper was elected the new Deputy Chairman and Jason Veitch remains Treasurer.

The North vs South tournament, a contest between the Western Cape travel industry and the Gautengers, will be played at Fancourt after a highly competitive game at Leopard Creek in 2022 that was won by the Capetonians.

The AGM was followed by a game and dinner sponsored by MSC at Country Club Johannesburg Woodmead.

MSC had installed an experience room at the Country Club, a replica of MSC’s ‘Yacht Club’, the ship-within-a-ship experience that will be available when MSC Splendida comes to South Africa to start its SA cruise season in November this year.

TIC is sponsoring the next game on June 13 at Country Club Johannesburg’s Rocklands course.
